Vintage Port

Vintage Port ist der seltene und hochwertige Portwein der Spitzenklasse. Nur herausragende Jahrgänge werden zu Vintage-Jahrgängen erklärt. Diese Deklaration ist nicht einheitlich; jedes Haus nimmt eine eigene Prüfung und eigene Entscheidung vor, die sie offiziell dem Portweininstitut meldet.

Wurde ein Jahrgang zum Vintage erklärt, so wird er in Flaschen abgefüllt und der weitere Reifungsprozess des Weines findet in der Flasche statt und kann viele Jahre (wenn nicht Jahrzehnte) dauern. Dadurch hat jede Flasche ihr „Depot“, welches der Wein braucht, um sich in der Flasche weiter zu entwickeln.

Nach frühestens 10 - 12 Jahren ist der Vintage Port trinkreif. Der Wein wird dekantiert und sollte innerhalb von 24 Stunden getrunken werden. Wie jeder Portwein, muss dieser Wein vom Portweininstitut begutachtet werden.
