Taylor's Vintage Port 2016. Insbesondere die Bedingungen in der Wachstums- und Reifephase haben im Jahr 2016 den Charakter der Weine geprägt: ihre Eleganz und Finesse ebenso wie die lebendige Säure und exquisite Qualität der Tannine. Der Frühling war ungewöhnlich nass mit kräftigem Regen und relativ kühlem Wetter im April und Mai. Hauptvorteil der reichen Niederschläge war, dass sie nach dem trockenen Vorjahr die Grundwasservorräte der Weinberge wieder auffüllten und die Reben für die folgenden heißen Sommermonate wappneten. In einigen Gebieten allerdings erschwerte das nasse Frühlingswetter die Ausbildung der Fruchtansätze und sorgte dadurch für markante Ertragseinbußen. Dadurch konzentrierten sich die Aromen und brachten die Qualität für einen sehr guten Vintage Port hervor.

Die frühesten Anzeichen der Veraison wurden erst um die zweite Juliwoche beobachtet. Ab Juli bis weit in den September herrschten Hitze und Trockenheit. Dennoch verlief die Entwicklung sehr langsam und gleichmäßig. Nach dem bereits späten Wachstumsbeginn waren die Trauben auch Ende August noch lange nicht reif. Wiederholter Regen Mitte September kam der Entwicklung sichtlich zugute. Wer die Lese bis nach dem Regen hinauszögern konnte, wurde mit perfekten Lesebedingungen und kühlen Nächten belohnt, die die Gärzeiten verlängerten und eine sanfte Extraktion ermöglichten. Für die Taylor’s Weingüter startete die Lese am 17. September 2016 in der Quinta de Vargellas, am 23. und 26. September folgten die Weingüter im Pinhão-Tal.
